Full Job Description
Teachers To Go is looking for a special education teacher to privately teach a nonverbal, technology-dependent 13 year old girl in person at her home in Gleneagle, north of Colorado Springs, CO 80921. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right special education professional: a part-time position tutoring just one student for 1.5 hours per session, three days a week, between the hours of 12-3pm (or 9am-12pm on Fridays), that pays $100/hour ($150/visit).
Looking for a state-certified special education teacher, or a general education teacher with a special education endorsement, who has prior experience working with nonverbal students. An educator with AAC device experience is preferred, and prior experience working with Proloquo2go is a plus, but not required. The right teacher will be patient, engaging and willing to learn about (and be reactive to) the needs, abilities, and limitations of the student. Looking for a teacher who can come up with adapted learning and communication strategies to homeschool and support an intelligent non-verbal student.
The teacher will provide a homeschool education for a student who is roughly at 5th grade reading level and 4th grade math level, but whose content comprehension is much higher than her abilities. The parents are willing to collaborate with the right teacher about the curriculum and/or methods used, and they are willing to purchase any recommended physical supplies, apps, or programs that the teacher recommends. The student can express herself well through her AAC device, but she is medically fragile and very immuno-compromised, and is also receiving SP, OT, ABA and PT.
State teacher certification and at least 2 years professional experience working with children with special needs is required, BA and prior experience with nonverbal students is strongly preferred. Experience working with AAC device-dependent students is a plus. The teacher will be responsible for all homeschool filings and assessments, and the teacher must agree to be diligent about sanitization and calling in if not feeling well, since the student is immunocompromised. Looking for an experienced teacher with good communication who is reactive to the student’s abilities and who will collaborate with the parents.
Requirements: State teacher certification (special education or general education with special education endorsement) and minimum of two years professional teaching experience working with children with special needs is required. BA and prior experience working with nonverbal students is preferred. Prior experience working with AAC device-dependent students is a plus. Must be able to deliver customized private teaching for a 13 year old girl in a homeschool environment and agree to be responsible for all required homeschool assessments and filings. Must be able to meet with the student for 1.5 hours each visit, three days a week between the hours of 12-3pm (or 9am-12pm on Fridays) at their home in Gleneagle, north of Colorado Springs CO 80921. Must be willing to interview via live video chat if requested, and in person in Colorado Springs, CO 80921.
