Full Job Description
Teachers To Go is looking for an in-person engaging and enthusiastic science/STEM teacher to provide fun, project-based activities for two energetic and smart 5 year old twin boys in their home after school. This is an excellent opportunity for a science teacher with experience creating and facilitating interactive age-appropriate activities for young children: a part-time after school position two days a week working with only two students that pays $85/hour ($170/visit). This is an immediate opportunity for the current 2026/27 school year.
The boys get out of their Montessori school at 2:30pm, and we are looking for a science teacher who can facilitate and deliver age-appropriate project-based lessons and programing that is fun, engaging and interactive, either on Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays. The teacher will create engaging hands-on science and STEM-based lessons and activities using project-based materials (for example: LEGOs, boxes, outdoor nature, etc.) to help build a foundational understanding of science and the way things work and facilitate a love of learning. The goal is to foster a love and appreciation of STEM subjects while helping the children gain confidence and knowledge in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
The parents will defer to the teacher regarding the programming and materials, but the teacher should be able to supply the materials and lessons, and they should be hands-on and fully interactive—not just mainly books or screens. The right teacher should be professional, reliable and on-time, patient, warm, enthusiastic, and able to relate to and fully engage children of this age. Looking for a creative teacher who can implement calm authority while facilitating learning in a way that is enjoyable. (Both children are curious and enjoy engaging and hands-on creative learning.)
Teacher candidates should have at least a BA and a minimum of three years of professional teaching experience working with early elementary students. State teacher certification is preferred. Key responsibilities include providing one-on-one (or together whenever appropriate) in-home science/STEM instruction and project-based activities for two 5 year old students, developing engaging lessons and activities that introduce basic science and STEM concepts ways that are fun and interactive, adapting lessons to each child's abilities, learning style and developmental stage, and communicating with parents regarding lessons and future learning goals.
Requirements: Minimum BA and at least 3 years of professional science/STEM teaching experience working with young children is required. (Full-time early elementary classroom experience is preferred.) State certification is preferred, but not required. Must have experience and be comfortable teaching science and STEM activities to young children using interactive and engaging methods and teaching materials that the teacher recommends and can supply. Must have your own reliable transportation and cell phone, and must be able to travel to the location of the students in Houston, TX 77024, either on Monday & Wednesday afternoons or Tuesday & Thursday afternoons from 3pm-5pm. Must have good communication skills, and must be willing to interview remotely via live video chat and in person in Houston, TX 77024.
